Over the last four years I have plunged myself into several lifelong passions. One of the biggest issues that held me back from truly living the purposeful Life I always dreamed of was the fact that I had so many interests I loved and couldn't make a decision between them. I wanted to do all of them and because there were so many I got very little done. So, four years ago I spent all my time just thinking about all the things I wanted in my life, then I wrote them down. There were about three or four pages worth of them. I rated each one in importance and started to whittle them down. I forced myself to choose just five. It was difficult for me as I am a person filled with curiosity and wonder of all things. From the five, instead of choosing the one that I thought was the one, I just wrote each one down in different places on one sheet of paper. I closed my eyes and spun the paper around and just let my finger point anywhere on the page. When I opened my eyes, that’s the one I started with. So many of us are indecisive like this. It stops you in your tracks and can do so until the day you die if you allow it. I began with the one topic that I had chosen at random and went all out to create a business around it. In reality, that is always what I wanted to do…was have my own successful business. If you’re still with me, you probably recognize this in yourself. Do you have a life that seems to rush by while you keep thinking you will start your business once you figure out what you’re truly meant to do? If there is one thing I have learned through all my time on this earth so far, it is that the purpose we have on this planet is whatever we choose it to be. This changes, grows and shifts as we change, grow and shift.
These seemingly tiny indecisions, tiny beliefs, tiny tendencies, add up. These tiny little blockades, these minuscule pebbles, they can be more powerful of a block than any huge momentous event. These are often the residue of those larger events. Like a mountain that disintegrates into a mound of tiny pebbles that has spread out into different areas of your life, try to become aware of the power of these pebbles. When you continue to just wave your hand at them as though they are nothing yet you never move forward because of them, you will find yourself one day, wishing that you had addressed those tiny little things so long ago.
Time to sweep the pebbles aside! Any decision you make is a perfect decision. All of them will lead you into lessons. All of them will have joy and pain attached to them, anywhere you begin, whatever it is you’re doing, will have its own requirements for growth. Pick any of them, just begin.
